Family Therapy

Trauma Informed Therapy in Albany, New York

Does you family have difficulty spending time together and getting along?

Maybe you get into a fight every time you try to spend time together, or perhaps you don’t like to spend time together because it never goes well. You may be struggling to communicate with each other due to not feeling understood. You may be feeling anxious about going home at the end of the day because you do not know what to expect when you get there.

Whatever it is that you’re experiencing, you’re beginning to notice the impact it has on every part of your life:

- Communication with your family never works or doesn’t change anything or we do not communicate about issues

- You feel like an outsider in your family system

- You keep yourself so busy and away from the home as much as possible, so you don’t have to think about home life

It may feel impossible now, but you can feel understood in your family system. You can feel safe communicating openly with them. And I can help you get there.

Family Therapy helps you do 3 things:

- Create a more cohesive and happy home life

- Create more open, expressive and safe communication with each other

- Discuss difficult topics in a safe and non judgmental space

I’ll help you through this process, tailoring each step to your unique needs and circumstances. My approach to family therapy focuses on understanding that life transitions can be difficult for all the individuals in the family system to adapt to.

It’s time to feel heard and important in your family once again.

Q: What does Family Therapy sessions like?

A: I meet clients at every session where they are that day. Meaning that clients are the experts in their own life and take the lead in sessions regarding the content discussed. I do actively help families have those difficult conversations in a healthy and effective way.

Q: How long does treatment usually last?

A: Families can complete therapy any where from 15-18 sessions.  Sessions are scheduled weekly in the beginning and then move to less frequently as progress in therapy begins to occur more regularly. Sessions are scheduled for a total of 50 minutes.
