Do you feel like you don’t know how to be happy?

Maybe you recently felt abandoned/rejected by a close person in your life, or perhaps you have been feeling like you have no control over your own life. You may be struggling to complete your day to day activities without feeling completely stressed/overwhelmed, or simply feel like you cannot get out of bed at all some days. Perhaps you are feeling like you will never feel happiness again.

Whatever it is that you are experiencing, you’re beginning to notice the impact of every facet of your life:

- Difficulty concentrating on tasks in the present

- Difficulty maintaining or creating close trusting relationships

- Feeling like you don’t know how to be happy

It may feel impossible now, but you can feel safe and learn to trust relationships. You can learn coping skills to help you feel at peace. You can learn to create and maintain boundaries with others to help keep you emotionally and physically safe in relationships. You can learn to reduce high risk situations that you are exposed to by working on building assertiveness within yourself. And I can help you get there.

EMDR helps you do 3 things:

- Process past traumatic/distressing experiences to help you move past them

- Help you change your thoughts, emotions and behaviors associated with a past traumatic/distressing experience

-Live your life without constant triggers effecting your functioning day to day

I'll help you through this process, tailoring each step to your unique needs and circumstances.

EMDR has 8 stages to treatment and starts with creating safety for the individual in therapy and within their day to day life.

You don’t have to continuing feeling the way you do about your life.

FAQ

Q: What do EMDR sessions like?

A: I meet clients at every session where they are that day. Meaning that clients are the experts in their own life and take the lead in sessions regarding the content discussed. I do actively teach coping skills, how to reduce high risk situations, and how to create/maintain boundaries in relationships in sessions. I provide psycho education regarding trauma, the effects on the brain, the short term effects, long term effects of trauma, and how you have developed traumatic ways of thinking and believing.

Q: How long does treatment usually last?

A: I normally complete treatment with clients within a years time. Sessions are scheduled weekly and continue to be weekly during the reprocessing phase of treatment to minimize the chance of distress. Sessions are scheduled for a total of 50 minutes.

Q: I feel like things will never change, how do I know therapy is for me?

A: The truth is that none of us can heal alone. We are humans and we heal through healthy connections and relationships to other individuals. This is called reparative experiences which is one of the reasons why therapy is effective and works.

Q: What if I am not ready to talk about some of my past experiences?

A: Part of being trauma informed means I will not force you to discuss topics or experiences that you say you are not ready to discuss. I believe in following the lead of my clients and meeting you where you are at every session. Alternatively trauma work can be done many different ways.

Q: How do we get started?

A: You can call or email me to set up a free 15 minute video consultation to make sure we are a good fit for services.
